How to Sign Up for Beat The Cut

Learn how to create your Beat The Cut account in under two minutes. Sign up with email or Google, set your display name, and start playing pool pick'ems today.

1. Getting Started: Two Ways to Sign Up

  • Beat The Cut offers two sign-up paths: email + password, or one-click Google sign-in.
  • Both take less than two minutes and land you in the same place.
  • Google sign-in is the faster option — no password to create or remember. If you use Gmail, it is the recommended choice.
  • Email + password is available if you prefer to keep your accounts separate or don't use Google.

2. Signing Up with Email and Password

  • Navigate to beatthecut.com and click "Sign Up" in the top right corner (or "Get Started" on the homepage).
  • Enter your email address and choose a password (minimum 8 characters; use something you'll remember).
  • You'll be asked to pick a display name before your account is created — more on that below.
  • After submitting, check your inbox for a confirmation email. Click the link inside to verify your address and activate your account.
  • The confirmation link is valid for 24 hours. If it expires, you can request a new one from the login page.

3. Signing Up with Google

  • Click "Continue with Google" on the sign-up page.
  • A Google authorization popup will appear. Select the Google account you want to use.
  • You'll be prompted to choose a display name on your first visit.
  • That's it. No email confirmation needed — Google handles the verification.
  • Your Beat The Cut account is tied to your Google account. You'll always sign in using the "Continue with Google" button going forward.

4. Choosing Your Display Name

  • Your display name is what other pool members see on the leaderboard and in pick views.
  • Choose something recognizable to your friends — first name, nickname, or your usual sports handle works well.
  • You can change your display name later in account settings.
  • Keep it appropriate; pool hosts can see all member names and can remove anyone from their pool.

5. Why We Ask for Your Email

  • Your email is used for three things only: pool invite notifications, tournament update alerts, and account security (password resets, login verification).
  • We do not send marketing emails unless you opt in.
  • We do not sell or share your email with third parties, ever.
  • You can manage notification preferences in your account settings after signing up.

6. What Data We Collect

  • We collect your email address, display name, and the picks you make inside pools.
  • We do not collect payment information directly — Stripe handles all billing and never shares card details with us.
  • If you sign up via Google, we receive your name and email from Google. We do not access your Google contacts, calendar, or any other data.

7. Troubleshooting: Confirmation Email Not Arriving

  • Check your spam or junk folder first — automated emails sometimes land there.
  • Search your inbox for "beatthecut.com" or "no-reply@beatthecut.com".
  • If it has been more than 10 minutes and nothing appears, go to the login page and click "Resend confirmation email."
  • Still nothing? Make sure the email address you entered was correct. If you mistyped it, create a new account with the correct address.
  • If you signed up with Google, no confirmation email is sent — you're already verified.
