How to Manage Your Account Settings

Update your display name, change your email or password, manage notifications, and understand what data Beat The Cut stores. Everything you need to know about your account.

1. Getting to Account Settings

  • After logging in, click your display name or account icon in the top right corner of any page.
  • Select "Account Settings" from the dropdown.
  • On mobile, tap the menu icon, then tap your name at the top to reach settings.
  • Settings are divided into sections: Profile, Email & Password, Notifications, Privacy, and Danger Zone.

2. Profile: Display Name and Avatar

  • Your display name is visible to everyone in your pools — on the leaderboard, in the draft view, and in pick breakdowns.
  • To change it, type a new name in the Display Name field and click "Save."
  • Changes take effect immediately and update across all pools you're a member of.
  • Avatar: you can upload a small profile photo. This is optional and visible only to your pool members. Accepted formats are JPG and PNG, under 2MB.
  • If you signed up via Google, your Google profile photo is used by default. You can replace it with a custom upload at any time.

3. Email: Change Address and Re-Verify

  • To update your email address, enter your new address in the Email field and click "Update Email."
  • You'll receive a verification link at your new address. Click it to confirm the change.
  • Until you verify the new address, your old email remains active for sign-in.
  • If you don't receive the verification email, check spam or request a new one from settings.
  • Note: if you use Google sign-in, your email is managed by Google and cannot be changed from within Beat The Cut. Update it in your Google account.

4. Password: Change It While You're Logged In

  • Changing your password in settings is different from the "Forgot Password" reset flow. You must be logged in to use this option.
  • Enter your current password, then your new password, and confirm it.
  • New password must be at least 8 characters.
  • After saving, your new password takes effect immediately. You are not logged out.
  • Google sign-in users: you don't have a Beat The Cut password, so this section won't appear in your settings.

5. Notifications: Control What You Hear About

  • Beat The Cut sends email notifications for the following events: pool invitations, tournament start reminders, draft lock warnings, and end-of-tournament results.
  • You can enable or disable each notification type independently.
  • Turning off all notifications is allowed, but you may miss draft deadlines. Tournament times are listed on the pool page regardless.
  • To resubscribe after opting out, come back to this settings section and re-enable the notifications you want.

6. Privacy: What Data We Collect and How We Use It

  • We collect your email address, display name, and your picks (which golfers you selected in which pools and tournaments).
  • We do not sell, rent, or share this data with advertisers or third parties.
  • Your picks are visible to members of the pools you join. The pool host can always see all picks.
  • If you signed up with Google, we receive your Google name and email only. We do not access any other Google data.
  • Payment data (card numbers, billing info) is handled entirely by Stripe. Beat The Cut never sees or stores your payment details. We only receive confirmation that a purchase was completed.
  • Our full privacy policy is at beatthecut.com/privacy.

7. Linked Accounts: Google OAuth

  • If you signed up via Google, your Beat The Cut account is linked to your Google account.
  • You can see your linked Google account under "Linked Accounts" in settings.
  • Currently, you cannot unlink Google and convert to an email + password account from within the app. If you need to do this, contact support.
  • You cannot link a second Google account to the same Beat The Cut account.

8. Sessions: Signing Out of All Devices

  • The "Sign Out" option in the menu logs you out of the current device only.
  • If you want to sign out of all devices (useful if you've logged in on a public computer), go to Settings and click "Sign Out Everywhere" under the Sessions section.
  • This immediately invalidates all active sessions. You'll need to sign back in on each device.

9. Account Deletion: Permanently Remove Your Account

  • At the bottom of account settings, in the Danger Zone section, you'll find "Delete Account."
  • This is permanent. Deleting your account removes your profile, your picks history, and your membership from all pools.
  • Your pool host will see your name replaced with "Deleted Member" on the leaderboard.
  • Purchases are non-refundable upon deletion. If you delete your account and create a new one, you'll need to purchase a new tier.
  • You'll be asked to confirm twice before deletion completes.
  • If you'd rather just take a break, you don't need to delete your account — just stop logging in. Your data stays safe and your pools remain intact.
